Vehicle History FAQ - Canada

Common questions about vehicle history checks in Canada

Our free check includes: full VIN decoding (specs, engine, transmission), active safety recall alerts from NHTSA and Transport Canada, market value estimation, Cardaps quality score, plus direct links to IBC flood/fire checks, CPIC stolen vehicle database, and Quebec RDPRM lien registry. No registration required.

Premium reports add accident and damage records, title brand history (salvage/rebuilt), previous owner count and timeline, odometer rollback detection, lien and loan status, auction and sales history with photos, and service and inspection records. These are sourced from multiple verified vehicle history databases.

Enter the 17-character VIN above for a free initial check. For detailed accident history, upgrade to a premium Cardaps report which includes police-reported accidents, insurance claims, and collision repair records. You can also check IBC VIN Verify for flood/fire damage reported by Canadian insurers.

A salvage title means the vehicle was declared a total loss by an insurer. A rebuilt title means it was repaired and passed a provincial inspection. While rebuilt vehicles can be safe, they typically have lower resale value (20-40% less) and may be harder to insure. Always get an independent mechanical inspection before purchasing.

For Quebec vehicles, search the RDPRM (Registre des droits personnels et réels mobiliers) - we provide a direct link above. For other provinces, contact the provincial personal property registry. Outstanding liens mean a lender has a legal claim on the vehicle, and you could lose it if the previous owner defaults.

CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre) is a national database maintained by the RCMP. It lists vehicles reported stolen across all Canadian provinces. We provide a direct link to check any VIN against CPIC - this check is free and recommended before any used car purchase in Canada.
